Sapporo City

There are several waterfalls scattered throughout Sapporo City. Among them, we would like to introduce Ariake Falls, located in Kiyota Ward. It is difficult to get there without a car, but it is a short walk from the parking lot, so even the elderly and small children can enjoy it.

Ariake Falls is located in the "Ariake Falls Nature Exploration Forest" along Route 341. If you say it is near Takino Suzuran Hillside Park, citizens of Sapporo may easily grasp the distance. There is a parking lot, so we recommend that you go there by car. The landmark is a small signboard that reads "Ariake Falls Entrance.
Entering the Ariake Falls Nature Exploration Forest from the side of the signboard, you should find it easy to walk as the walking path is well maintained. As the name "forest" implies, the area is thick with trees in summer, and you will feel as if you are hiking as you walk through the forest in the sunlight filtering through the trees. It is also safe to walk through the forest, as there are signs at points to guide you.
After walking for about 10 to 15 minutes, you will come to a stairway leading down to a stream. Once you descend these stairs, you will already see Ariake Falls in your line of sight. The waterfall has a 13-meter drop, and its elegant impression is that of a waterfall falling down the rock face in a thin line.
In addition to the beauty of Ariake Falls, the surrounding nature is also attractive. In particular, the moss growing on the bedrock and fallen trees seems to draw the viewer into a world of silence where time seems to have stopped.
When you have fully enjoyed the waterfall, you may return up the stairs to the parking lot, or you may continue walking in the Ariake Falls Exploration Forest. However, while the distance from the parking lot to Ariake Falls is about 600 meters, the total length of the forest is about 7 kilometers, and there are some ups and downs along the way. Bears are sometimes seen in the area, so you need to be prepared for that.
If you just want to see Ariake Falls, it is one of the easiest and most recommended waterfalls in Sapporo.

Especially in summer, just being there gives you a pleasant feeling of being purified, making it a good spot for a slightly different kind of date.
