[The Farnsworth Invention", a masterpiece play based on a true story by the genius Aaron Sorkin
The Farnsworth Invention" will be performed for the first time in Japan by the String Orchestra!
The Farnsworth Invention" is one of the masterpieces of screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, known for his films "A Few Good Men" and "The Social Network". Based on a true story about the history of television development, the play opened on Broadway in 2007.
Gemma Gakuen, which has worked on a number of international plays, including Neil Simon's "Barefoot Walking" (2016) and Ariel Dorfman's "Death and the Maiden" (2023), will present the Japanese premiere of the play in November 2024.
The production will use an unpublished translation that Yoji Aoi, one of Japan's leading translators, handed to Gemmaki shortly before his death, saying, "I hope you will perform this someday. The stage will be one of the culmination of director Keita Gemmaki's career.
The cast is an all-star lineup of actors, including members of Gemmaki's troupe. The main character, the genius scientist Philo Farnsworth, will be played by Yohei Endo, who has worked with Gemmaki Gakudan on many occasions.
The first day of the production, November 21, 2024, will be World Television Day.
Don't miss the first performance in Japan of two "Inventions" about the invention of television.
[The Story]
In the summer of 1921, Philo Farnsworth, a 14-year-old boy prodigy, invents a "blueprint for a completely electronic television" that no one had ever achieved. His vision of revolutionary technology was not initially taken seriously by many adults.
However, things took a turn for the worse when his world-first experiment was successful.
His success eventually leads to a long-running dispute with David Cernoff, the president of the large corporation RCA--.
