SPOT
North Plain Farm Milk Hall
After passing through the urban area of Koube Town, drive along Route 239 (Tenboku Kokudo) toward Nishi-Koube Village for about 5 minutes, and you will see a sign for "Milk Hall" with a farm in front of you on the left. After parking your car in the spacious parking lot and entering the store, you will see a brightly lit space surrounded by the warmth of wood. The Milk Hall is a store directly operated by North Plain Farm, which produces a wide variety of products that are closely connected with local agriculture, such as natural cheese, soft ice cream, and meat processing. In addition to Okoppe milk, Okoppe yogurt, and soft serve ice cream, the shop also offers hamburgers and curry for lunch.
North Plain Farm moved to Okobe Town in 1902 as its predecessor, Daikoku Farm, and began full-scale farming. At that time, farmers mainly farmed in the fields, but after the war, the Okhotsk region was forced to switch to dairy farming due to repeated cold weather damage, and in 1957, Daikoku Farm stopped farming and became a full-time dairy farmer. Koube Town has also developed into a dairy farming town. North Plain Farm, which promotes "6th industrialization" based on dairy farming from production to sales, does not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and operates a farm that reduces the burden on the environment (soil, livestock, humans, etc.) as much as possible, obtaining JAS organic certification in three categories: organic feed, organic livestock products, and organic processed foods.
Inside the store, you can buy dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, etc.) and sweets, which are made with the farmer's unique attention to taste, and can also be shipped to local areas. On fine days, enjoying soft-serve ice cream on the outside terrace with a view of the dairy farm will be a memorable part of your trip.
