SPOT
Koganeyu Onsen
A quiet hot spring resort with only two inns, with a record of its opening in 1887.
Koganeyu Onsen is located about 4 km from Jozankei Hot Spring Resort and is closer to downtown Sapporo. It is a small hot spring resort with two inns, Yumoto Koganeyu and Yumoto Koganeyu Onsen Matsunoyu, at the foot of the mountain where the Toyohira River flows. Both are open for one-day bathing. The symbol of the area is a 700-year-old "Katsura tree," which is said to have been given to Jozankei's founder, Miizumi Jozan, when he fell asleep at its base and was told that the spirit of the tree appeared to him in his dream and showed him a sacred spring. The tree is called "Katsura Fudo" because a statue of Fudo is enshrined in a hollow at its base. The autumn foliage and the Sapporo Ainu Culture Exchange Center Sapporo Pirikakotan, which is within walking distance, are also highlights of the area.
