It is one of the familiar mountains to Sapporo citizens, as it is clearly visible from Route 230, which leads to Jozankei Onsen. Around Hakkenzan, fruit cultivation such as cherries and strawberries is flourishing, and there are tourist farms where visitors can pick fruits and experience horseback riding.
Hakkenzan is also home to deciduous broadleaf forests of ezo itaya, linden, and katsura, and many climbers come to enjoy the autumn colors of the leaves in the fall. At the foot of the mountain, Ezo elder trees also turn bright red. The unique vegetation of this rocky mountain can be seen.
