Sapporo Kyoiku Bunka Kaikan

This is the place to enjoy performing arts such as theater. The Sapporo Kyoiku Bunka Kaikan is a cultural facility that is well known by the citizens of Sapporo under the name of "Kyobun".

Since its opening in 1977, Sapporo Kyoiku Bunka Kaikan has been known as "Kyobun" by the citizens of Sapporo. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of performing arts such as music, dance, drama, opera, and classical performing arts. The brick exterior of the building, which stands out against the greenery, was designed by Yoshiya Taue, one of Hokkaido's leading architects. It is adjacent to the Sapporo City Museum (former Sapporo Appellate Court). On the grounds is a water pine tree planted on the west side of the main gate of the Sapporo Appellate Court when the Crown Prince visited Sapporo in 1922. From summer to fall each year, the museum hosts the Kyobun Theatre Festival, a theater festival in which theater companies from Hokkaido and abroad participate, and the Sapporo Opera Festival, which includes programs that can be enjoyed with babies.
