Former Kamisunagawa Station (Kanashibetsu Station)
As the Hakodate Main Line's sole branch line, carrying out the transportation of coal and passengers, and becoming the driving force for the development of Kamisunagawa Town, the "Kamisunagawa Line" was opened as its predecessor, the Mitsui Private Railway, in Taisho 8 (1919) as a means of coal transportation.
In the vicinity of its Kamisunagawa side's terminal station, "Kamisunagawa Station," coal mining facilities such as loading/unloading areas (chakkaba) and coal sorting machines (sentanki) were adjacent, and as a hub for coal transportation, it supported Kamisunagawa's development. Time flowed, and from the unique atmosphere that the coal mining facilities evoked, Kamisunagawa Station became a filming location for movies and TV dramas, and as the setting for famous works, it was sometimes chosen as the filming location for important scenes.
The station building was relocated to its current location in Heisei 6 (1994) after the Kamisunagawa Line was abolished, but because much of the fictional town "Kanashibetsu," which became the setting for the TV drama "Kinō, Kanashibetsu de" (broadcast in Showa 59 (1984)), was filmed in Kamisunagawa Town, and Kamisunagawa Station was used as that station (Kanashibetsu Station), timetables and ticket gates, etc. are left as they were, and photos from the time of filming, etc. are displayed.
