Shiribeshi-Shibetsu River

The Shiribeshi-Shibetsu River is the only first-class river in the southern part of Hokkaido, and has been repeatedly voted the clearest river in Japan. The 80-km-long river runs from the lush green mountains of Imagane Town through Setona Town to the Sea of Japan. The river has long been a fishing ground for salmon and has been the center of people's lives. Agricultural products such as rice and potatoes grown in the basin, marine products such as sea urchins and abalone caught in the Sea of Japan where the river flows into, and clean water play a major role in the production of local products in the town of Setona.
