Ukishima Park

This nature-filled park is centered around the 3.3㎢ "Ugui Swamp. Legend has it that a dragon god once lived in the swamp, and since Ainu times it has been called "Kamui lulu tou (swamp where the god brings fish)" and has been cherished by the Ainu people. The lake is dotted with floating islands of various sizes and is dotted with trees and yachidamo (a type of Japanese ash), which drift gently on the surface of the lake with the wind, giving the area a scenic appearance. The swamp is surrounded by a well-maintained trail that takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk around, making it a perfect place for forest bathing. In spring, the swamp is one of the best places in Hokkaido to view skunk cabbages and yellow-flowered yerba buena (Yatibuki). In autumn, the trees surrounding the swamp change color, and visitors can enjoy strolling through the autumn foliage. The surrounding area is also known as a treasure trove of wild birds, and is a stopover for migratory birds such as black woodpeckers, kingfishers, and kingfishers. The site is also equipped with an east house for BBQ and toilets, and is recommended for picnics.
Because of the abundance of nature, beware of brown bears and other wild animals.
