Floating Island Park
A park overflowing with nature, developed centering on "Ugui Marsh" of 3.3 km² area.
In the marsh, a legend that a Dragon God was living long, long ago remains, and from the Ainu era, it has been called "Kamuy Ruru To = Marsh where God brings fish" and has been treasured.
On the water surface, several large and small floating islands where alder trees and Japanese ash trees grow thickly are scattered, and with the wind, it shows a scenic appearance drifting leisurely and quietly on the lake surface.
The marsh's perimeter, a walking path is maintained, and because one can do one circuit in approximately 20~30 minutes, it is perfect for forest bathing.
In spring, in the wetland, besides Asian skunk cabbage growing in colonies, "Ezo no Ryukinka (Yachibuki)" with yellow flowers blooms, and it has become the foremost famous place within Hokkaido.
In autumn, the trees surrounding the marsh change color, and autumn leaves strolls can also be enjoyed.
The surroundings are also known as a treasure trove of wild birds, and Black Woodpeckers, Common Kingfishers, Crested Kingfishers, etc. inhabit, and it has also become a stopover point for migratory birds.
