Tamagawa Park
A park located on a small hill (approx. 80m elevation) that spreads out around Tamagawa Shrine, famous for its daffodils, the town flower of Setana. It offers views of the lush rice paddy landscape and Mount Yurappu. The best time to see the 'Daffodil Plaza,' where about 300,000 bulbs of approximately 30 varieties are planted, is from late April to mid-May. If the timing is right, you can enjoy the contrast between the daffodils and cherry blossoms.
On the spacious 7-hectare grounds, broad-leaved forests of beech and oak, as well as artificial forests of cedar and larch, grow, allowing visitors to enjoy autumn leaf viewing. Tamagawa Shrine was established in 1892 by Goro Niwa, a distinguished figure from the former Aizu domain and the founder of the Kitahiyama area, to enshrine 'Sakanoue no Karitamaro no Mikoto.' The current shrine building was rebuilt in July 1941 using Akita cypress.
A giant 400-year-old beech tree once stood as a sacred tree but was lost due to a lightning strike. In 2001, a divided spirit from the sacred tree of Haji Shrine, which has ties to the Aizu domain, was ceremonially planted as a new sacred tree. After worshiping, you can receive a goshuin (a seal stamp) at 'Makomanai Shrine' in the Kitahiyama area.
