SPOT
Tamagawa Park
A famous spot for the Setana Town flower, the "daffodil," this park spreads out around Tamagawa Shrine and is located on a small hill (approximately 80m above sea level) with a view of the lush rice fields and Mt. Yurakube. The best time to see the "Daffodil Square," where about 300,000 daffodils of about 30 different species are planted, is from late April to mid-May. If you come at the right time, you can enjoy the contrast between the daffodils and the cherry blossoms.
The large site of about 7 hectares is home to broadleaf forests of beech and oak, as well as artificial forests of cedar and larch, where you can enjoy viewing the autumn leaves in the fall. Tamagawa Shrine was built in 1892 by Niwa Goro, a notable figure in the former Aizu clan and the founder of the development of the Kitahiyama district, to enshrine "Sakanoue Karita Maro no Mikoto," and the current shrine building was rebuilt in July 1941 using Akita cypress wood.
A giant 400-year-old beech tree was once enshrined here as a sacred tree, but was destroyed by a lightning strike. In 2001, a branch of the sacred tree from Haji Shrine, which is associated with the Aizu clan, was commemoratively planted as a sacred tree. After visiting the worship hall, you can receive a goshuin (shrine seal) at Makomanai Shrine in Kitahiyama Ward.
