■About the Planetarium
The latest planetarium projector manufactured by Carl Zeiss of Germany, which is well known for its beautiful starry sky, is installed to reproduce the star-filled sky of each season on the 18-meter-diameter dome. In addition to starry sky projection, the dome is also used for fulldome surround images, slide images, star gazing concerts, and various other efforts to make celestial bodies and astronomical phenomena more accessible to the public. The auditorium has a large seating capacity of 170. Universal design has also been taken into consideration, such as pair seats for disabled visitors with caregivers and wheelchair spaces designed to prevent neck injury.

About the Observatory
The observatory at the Asahikawa Science Museum has two domes, one large and one small, each equipped with a large astronomical telescope. Because of the large aperture of the telescopes, many stars can be seen clearly even in the urban area, and bright stars such as first magnitude stars can be observed even during the daytime. In addition to astronomical observations such as sunspot observations, the observatory offers a variety of activities such as parent-child astronomy classes and viewing events to provide visitors with knowledge and information about astronomy. The observatory also has an observation deck, from which visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Asahikawa and observe celestial objects using a 10-centimeter mobile telescope and binoculars. The observatory is also equipped with a lift and other facilities that allow visitors in wheelchairs to enjoy astronomical observation.
