SPOT
Lake Toufutuko (Toufutoko Swan Park)
One of the representative landscapes of Okhotsk
Lake Toufutoko was officially designated as a Ramsar wetland at the 9th Conference of the Parties to the Ramsar Convention held on November 8, 2005, in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Lake Taojyu, which stretches from the Okhotsk coastline along the national highway, is one of the representative landscapes of Okhotsk, and is a good observation point for whooper swans that come to the area around October. Whooper swans and other ducks can be observed up close.
In summer, the marshlands of Lake Taojing are covered with clumps of Siberian irises and grazed by ponies, creating an idyllic landscape that is an excellent spot for taking pictures.
The iris is toxic, so ponies will not eat it. This is the focus of the project, and as part of its conservation activities, ponies and other horses are allowed to graze on the weeds to restore the iris vegetation.
