Rising Sun Peak

Asahidake, of 2,291m elevation, is the most high mountain in Hokkaido and is also being selected for "Japan's 100 Famous Mountains". It is located on the north side of Daisetsuzan National Park, and a plateau zone is widely spreading, and the types of alpine plants are also abundant.

The climbing season is from late June until early October and is short, although, the appearance of the magnificent nature changing rapidly in a short period is spectacular. The flowers of alpine plants, becoming a peak towards late July, dye one's feet colorfully, and it is truly the appearance of a paradise, called "Kamuy Mintara" (Garden where the gods dwell) in Ainu language.

It is known as the place where autumn leaves arrive most early in Japan, and the autumn leaves that can be seen from mid-September towards late month start from the Sugatami Area and move day by day to Asahidake Onsen. This period, many of tourists visit intending to see the magnificent coloring spreading in Daisetsuzan National Park.
