SPOT
Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway
Asahidake Ropeway is a popular sightseeing spot where you can easily visit the highest mountain in Hokkaido, Asahidake, and enjoy a 10-minute aerial walk. The ropeway operates throughout the year (with inspection periods) and takes you to the dynamic four seasons of the Daisetsuzan mountain range. Up to 101 people can ride at a time, and the panoramic view of the Daisetsuzan Mountains from the train window can be appreciated.
From July to August, a variety of alpine plants bloom and climbers enjoy trekking in the cool weather. In winter, rare natural phenomena such as diamond dust and sun pillars sometimes appear, and many photographers are eager to catch a glimpse of them.
Skiing and Snowboarding
Asahidake is known for its white powder snow and its white world, attracting skiers and snowboarders from all over the world who enjoy mountain skiing. The Asahidake ropeway is in operation during the winter and takes skiers up to 1,600 meters instead of ski lifts.
In midwinter, temperatures can drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius, and although weather conditions are harsh, the area enjoys great popularity among outdoor enthusiasts who can enjoy the light, fluffy snow and beautiful nature, including diamond dust and sun pillars.
