Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway

The Asahidake Ropeway is a popular tourist spot that allows you to easily visit Asahidake, the highest mountain in Hokkaido, and enjoy a 10-minute aerial stroll. It operates all year round (subject to inspection periods) and will take you through the dynamic four seasons of the Daisetsuzan mountain range. Up to 101 people can ride at a time, and you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Daisetsuzan mountain range from the window.

From July to August, a variety of alpine plants bloom, and the cool climate makes trekking enjoyable, attracting many climbers, while in the latter half of Silver Week in September, many tourists from both Japan and abroad visit to catch a glimpse of the peak of autumn leaves from their train windows. In winter, rare natural phenomena such as diamond dust and sun pillars can appear, and many photographers try to capture these moments.

■ Skiing and snowboarding
Asahidake is known for its expansive white world and high-quality powder snow, and skiers and snowboarders from all over the world come to enjoy mountain skiing. The Asahidake Ropeway operates even in winter, taking skiers up to 1,600m in place of a ski lift.

In the middle of winter, temperatures can drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius, and although the weather conditions are harsh, the area is extremely popular with outdoor enthusiasts who can enjoy the light, fluttering snow and beautiful natural scenery such as diamond dust and sun pillars.
