Atsugishi Town Farm
When people think of Atsugishi, they associate it with beautiful coastlines, flowers, and tastes, but there is another world behind it, a large dairy farming town on the Negushiro plateau.
The road through the Ota area, which was pioneered by Tondenbei, was built in 1888 by a prisoner imprisoned in Shibecha at the time in just eight months. It is said that the road was roughly constructed by using torchlight to set the direction at night, and trees were driven up to the top of the prisoners and felled by their weight.
The town-run ranch spread out on this cultivated plateau is divided into three estates, Dabetsu, Setaniushi, and Betsukanbegyu, with a total area of 1,357 hectares. The pastureland of the Obetsu complex, selected as one of the Ten Scenic Spots, is 200 hectares with 450 dairy calves grazing on it.
The view of the green wavy plateau from here is truly 360 degrees. The view of the land with its herds of grazing cattle and the sun rising and setting beyond the horizon is spectacular.
