The Otaru Tengu Ropeway, opened in December 1979, is a three-wire ropeway with a capacity of 30 passengers. It operates from the foot of the mountain to the summit, a total length of 735 meters, in about 4 minutes. The view from the ropeway windows is like a box garden of the city below, Otaru Port, Ishikari Bay, and on a clear day, the distant Shakotan Peninsula and the Shikotan Mountain Range can be seen from the ropeway windows. The view from the Mt. Tengu ropeway will make your visit to Otaru even more memorable.

Otaru Tengu Ropeway will operate from 6:00 a.m. on New Year's Day. You can see the sunrise from the observation platform at the top of the mountain and pay a visit to Tenguyama Shrine, the highest shrine in Otaru, for the first visit of the year. Before sunrise, you can see the "morning night view" in the clear air and silence. In winter, it is transformed into the closest ski resort to downtown Otaru, with a wide range of courses from beginner to advanced, and is also used by elementary and junior high schools in the city for skiing lessons.
