Mt. Moiwa (Moiwayama) is a 531-meter-high mountain located almost in the center of Sapporo City. From the summit, you can enjoy a grand panorama that includes the Sapporo cityscape, Ishikari Bay of the Sea of Japan, and the Mashike Shokanbetsu mountains. From the foot to the midway station, you can take the ropeway or the Mt. Moiwa Sightseeing Motorway. From the midway station to the summit, you ride a mini cable car that uses the world's first drive system. It is also popular among Sapporo citizens as a mountain that can be climbed casually. There are five hiking trails that can be climbed in light attire (the shortest course is 2.4 km, the longest is 4.5 km), and it is bustling with hikers on weekends in the summer. It is an unmissable spot for viewing the Sapporo nightscape, as well as during the daytime.

In the Ainu language, it was called 'Inkarushipe' (a place one always climbs to keep watch), and it served as a lookout mountain. Takeshiro Matsuura, an explorer from the late Edo period, wrote in his 'Goho Yotei Nisshi,' 'For the Ainu, Mt. Moiwa was not only a lookout mountain but also a revered, sacred mountain.'

The summit observation deck is a spectacular spot where you can see the lights of Sapporo, like jewels scattered across the vast Ishikari Plain. Couples can ring the 'Bell of Happiness' and leave a love padlock with their wishes written on it attached to the handrail. Love padlocks are sold at the souvenir shop 'Mt. MOIWA SOUVENIR SHOP' and the restaurant 'The Jewels' at the summit station. Furthermore, it has been certified as one of the '100 Famous Moons of Japan' spots because of the beautiful moon viewed from the observation deck.
