SPOT
Moiwa and the Sapporo Moiwa Ropeway
Take the Moiwa Ropeway to Mt. Moiwa, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Sapporo, one of the three newest night views in Japan.
Located almost in the center of Sapporo, Mt. Moiwa rises 531 meters above sea level. From the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Sapporo, Ishikari Bay on the Sea of Japan, and Mt. Moiwa Kanko Expressway, and the "Moris Car," the world's first cable car to use a driving system, from the foot of the mountain to the summit. Moiwa is also popular among Sapporo citizens as a mountain that can be easily climbed. There are five trails (the shortest 2.4 km, the longest 4.5 km) that can be climbed with light clothing, and the mountain is crowded with climbers on weekends during the summer season. It is a must-see place not only during the daytime, but also when viewing the nightscape of Sapporo.
In the Ainu language, the mountain is called "Inkarsipe (where you always go up there to keep watch)," and it was even used to be a mountain to keep watch on. The Ainu explorer Takeshiro Matsuura wrote in his "Rear Yotei Diary" that "Mt. He wrote.
In October 2015, Sapporo was recognized as one of Japan's "New Three Nightscape Cities" along with Nagasaki and Kobe at the "Nightscape Summit," a gathering of local governments and companies throughout Japan that are working to revitalize nightscape tourism. The observatory at the top of the mountain offers a spectacular view of the Ishikari Plain, which stretches 360 degrees, and the lights of Sapporo, which look as if they are encrusted with jewels. Couples can ring the "Bell of Happiness" and leave a padlock of love on the railing. Love padlocks are sold at "Mt. MOIWA SOUVENIR SHOP," a souvenir store at Moiwa Nakasaka Station, and at "The Jewels," a restaurant at the summit station. The area is also recognized as one of the "100 Best Moon Viewing Spots in Japan" because of the beautiful moon seen from the observatory.
