Rausu Shrine
This shrine was built at the end of the Edo period (1603-1867) to pray for safe voyages and fishing prosperity in Rausu. The spirit of Mt. Rausu was enshrined at the shrine, and it was moved to its current location in 1895.
The shrine watches over the town of Rausu as the general guardian of Shiretoko.
It is located within easy walking distance of the city center. There is a place within the shrine grounds where you can drink Rausu Gongensui, spring water from the Rausu Mountains, so why not include it in your Rausu walking course?
The shrine is located in the middle of nature, and you may even see Ezo-shika deer visiting the shrine.
