Historical Village of Hokkaido
Located within Nopporo Forest Park, the "Historical Village of Hokkaido" is an open-air museum established to commemorate the centennial of Hokkaido's development. It preserves historical buildings from the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods, which have been relocated from all over Hokkaido and restored to convey the industry, life, and culture of the pioneer era.
The village is divided into four areas—a town, a farming village, a mountain village, and a fishing village—and recreates the scenery of the time, so stepping inside feels like being in Hokkaido over 100 years ago. Touring by horse-drawn trolley in the summer or by horse-drawn sleigh in the winter is recommended. Workshops to experience the culture of the pioneer era, such as traditional toy making and straw craft, are also held from time to time. The winter-only "Winter Life Experience" is an excellent opportunity to learn about the harsh winter life of the pioneer era.
