Hokkaido Historical Village
A vast 54-hectare open-air museum that conveys the image of Hokkaido during the Meiji and Taisho periods
The "Hokkaido Historical Village" located in Nopporo Forest Park is an open-air museum that was opened to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Hokkaido. Historical buildings that convey the industry, lifestyle, and culture of Hokkaido's pioneering era from three periods, the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa eras, have been relocated, restored, and preserved from all over Hokkaido.
The village is divided into four areas: city, farming village, mountain village, and fishing village, and the scenery of those times has been recreated, so once you step inside, you'll feel like you're in Hokkaido over 100 years ago. We recommend touring the village by horse-drawn railway in summer, and by horse-drawn sleigh in winter. There are also classes on making traditional playground equipment and straw crafts, where you can experience the culture of the pioneering days. The "Winter Life Experience", available only in winter, is a great opportunity to learn about the harsh winter life of the pioneering days.
