Jozankei Onsen is a popular hot spring resort in the backcountry of Sapporo. In a corner of Jozankei Onsen, there is a gelato and pizza store with an interesting concept. The hint of the concept is hidden in the unique and impactful name of the store, "Rainy Day and Snowy Day.

Ame no hi to Yuki no hi" opened in September 2018. Since then, it has become a popular restaurant in Jozankei. The stylish atmosphere is different from that of the hot spring resort area, and it is exciting even before you enter the restaurant.

Inside the store, where goods and other items are also sold, there are tables as well as counter seats facing a large window, where you can relax and enjoy the view outside. Many customers who are looking for gelato also take it out.

First, check out the gelato right at the entrance. The "Futatsu" with two choices is 470 yen including tax, and the "Mitzu" with three choices is 570 yen including tax.

All of them look so delicious that it is hard to decide which one to choose, but how about this one? For example, how about the combination of "blueberry" and "home-grown pumpkin"?

The refreshing tartness of blueberries from Toyotaki in Minami Ward, Tokyo, and the rich flavor of the pumpkin are a perfect match. Another recommended combination is "salted Chinese chives" and "forest raspberries.

The sweet and sour taste of the raspberry and the smooth texture of the raspberry are a nice accent to the highly popular shio-banira. By the way, all gelato is made with Jersey milk from Biei-cho.

The gelato cups are stamped with cute stamps. There are 15 kinds of stamps, and the stamp changes depending on the weather of the day. At the time of the interview, it was cloudy, so the stamp was a cloud. Now, here is a question: There is a stamp that is used only once a year.

The correct answer was the stamp of the first snow. Why don't you take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity and get a rare stamp?

If you visit the restaurant, be sure to try the pizza. The dough is thin but surprisingly sticky and satisfying. The "Ameyuki's Luxury Salad Pizza" (2,035 yen including tax), pictured above, is the most popular! Plenty of vegetables and homemade prosciutto ham make it truly luxurious.

The Ame-no-Yuki Japanese-style pizza (1,815 yen including tax) is another one you might want to try, with Japanese-style toppings such as mountain wasabi, dried bonito flakes, and oboro kelp, and a cream sauce.

At the beginning of this article, I mentioned that this is a restaurant with a "rather interesting concept. The concept of "Ame-no-hi and Yuki-no-hi" is exactly what it sounds like: a place where you can feel happy and enjoy yourself even on a bad day.

Therefore, during rainy and snowy days, self-service coffee is offered, gelato can be changed to "mitts" with one extra flavor at the price of "futatsu," and extra cheese is available on pizzas, among other great perks.

In other words, it is precisely on bad weather days that you should go out to Jozankei Onsen and enjoy a fun and economical time. It's kind of nice to know that rainy days and snowy days are not all bad, isn't it?
