There are many extensive parks in Sapporo. Such parks change their expressions with the seasons, delighting the local people. Kawashita Park in Shiroishi Ward is one such park, and as of May 2022, the lilacs have reached their best season!

Kawashita Park is known not only for its large space but also for its various facilities.

For example, the park has a baseball field, tennis courts, a grand golf course, and more. The "Relax Plaza" in the center of the park even has a swimming pool and bathrooms!

However, many people seem to visit the park without any particular purpose in mind. They come here with a light heart, thinking, "Let's go for a walk in Kawashita Park for a while. It is truly a familiar park that exists in the daily lives of local residents.

As you stroll through the park, the seasonal flowers and grasses will delight your eyes. Among them, lilacs are the most famous in Kawashita Park. You can also see them on the parkway at .......

There is an area in the park named "Lilac Forest," which attracts many visitors from Sapporo and beyond during the season.

There are 1,700 lilacs of 200 varieties cultivated here! This is the largest collection of lilacs in Japan.

Lilacs have a strong image of pink and purple, but they are actually classified into seven different colors. A visit to the lilac forest will clearly show you the variety of colors.

Since there are so many varieties, when one variety finishes its season, another variety is ready for viewing. In the Lilac Forest, lilac flowers bloom continuously from mid-May to early July every year.

This year (2022), the "Sapporo Lilac Festival" is back in Odori Park, which has made news, and on May 28 (Sat.) and 29 (Sun.), Lilac Festival events will also be held in Kawashita Park as a downstream venue.
