There are many large parks in Sapporo. These parks change appearance with the seasons, providing enjoyment for locals. Kawashita Park in Shiroishi Ward is one such park. As of May 2022, the lilacs are in full bloom! Kawashita Park is known not only for its size, but also for the wide range of facilities it offers.

For example, the park has a baseball field, tennis courts, a grand golf course, and more. The "Relax Plaza" in the center even has a swimming pool and a bathroom!

However, it seems that many people visit without any particular purpose. They just come to have fun, thinking, "Let's take a walk in Kawashita Park." It's a park that is loved and a part of the daily lives of locals.

As you stroll through the park, you can enjoy the seasonal flowers. Kawashita Park is especially famous for its lilacs. You can see them along the garden paths...

There is also an area within the park called "Lilac Forest," which attracts many people from inside and outside Sapporo during the lilac season.

There are 1,700 lilacs of 200 different varieties cultivated here, making it the largest collection in Japan!

Lilacs are often associated with pink and purple, but they are actually divided into seven different colors. If you come to Lilac Forest, you'll understand just how many different colors there are.

There are so many varieties that when one variety finishes its peak season, another variety begins its peak. Lilac flowers continue to bloom in the Lilac Forest from mid-May to early July every year.

This year (2022), the Sapporo Lilac Festival will be back in Odori Park, which also made the news. On Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th, the Lilac Festival will be held at Kawashita Park as the Kawashita venue.
