As early summer arrives in Hokkaido, a vibrant array of flowers begins to bloom all at once. The Okhotsk region of Eastern Hokkaido is just about to hit its peak flower season. For those wondering exactly where to go, we've got you covered with flower-viewing spots recommended by a local expert!
Our guide is Ayumi Takai, also known as tykai, a local player from Nakashibetsu Town who belongs to "mina ikor," a group dedicated to fully enjoying the nature and culture of Hokkaido. She has carefully selected three fantastic spots for us this time.
1. A stunning contrast of sea and lavender at Okhotsk Sea Ice Park's Lavender Fields (Mombetsu City)
This is a rare spot in Hokkaido where you can enjoy lavender with a view of the sea. The combination of the blue sea and blue sky on a clear day gives you a true sense of the refreshing Okhotsk summer.

2. Enjoy various types of lilies at Koshimizu Lily Park (Koshimizu Town)
While lilies are often thought of as white flowers, here you can encounter a wide variety of cultivars. Furthermore, by combining early-blooming and late-blooming varieties, you can enjoy the flowers for about a month, making it an easy spot to plan a visit to.
■ Hours: Mid-July, late August to mid-September 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM / Late July to late August 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
■ Admission: Adults (junior high school students and older) 500 yen

3. The best place for sunflowers and cosmos: Omagari Lakeside Park (Abashiri City)
Sunflowers start blooming around late July, and you can enjoy them again at the end of summer around September. In September, not only sunflowers but also cosmos begin to bloom, allowing you to enjoy charming flower fields of yellow and pink.
