Now is the best time to visit Yurigahara Park, where you can enjoy around 100 kinds of colorful lilies!
The lilies are in full bloom at Yurigahara Park in Kita-ku, Sapporo! As the park's name includes the word "lily," Yurigahara Park is famous for its lilies. Why not relax and enjoy the colorful lilies? At Yurigahara Park, which boasts an area of 25.4 hectares, you can see a variety of flowers. Among them, there are about 100 varieties of lilies cultivated, which bloom from early June to late August and reach their peak around mid-July.
Each area has its own theme, and you can see lilies in the "World Lily Plaza" area marked by a star-shaped flowerbed. First, pick up a leaflet at the "Yurigahara Green Center" and check the map of the park!
You can see colorful lilies in the central flower bed of the World Lily Plaza. Although lilies tend to be associated with white, they can be this colorful!
The star-shaped flowerbed also has a striking contrast of orange and purple. The orange is from Siberian lilies, and the purple is from lavender. This unique collaboration is a delight to the eyes of visitors.
The Lily Train that travels around the park passes close to the star-shaped flowerbeds, so it would be nice to view them from the train window. It would also be even more photogenic if you took a photo with the silo nearby.
Yurigahara Park also cultivates native lilies. One of these is the Madonna lily, which is in full bloom in July. Its pure white appearance gives off a somewhat noble air, and in Europe it is considered a symbol of the Virgin Mary. The horticultural varieties that were born from crossbreeding are of course beautiful, but seeing the original species on which they are based is sure to feel a little special.
Another native species, the regal lily, blooms in large colonies in mid-July. The colonies, dyed in the colors of the regal lily, are a sight to behold.
Now is the perfect time to visit Yurigahara Park, as the lilies are in full bloom. You will be greeted by a variety of lilies and their wonderful fragrance. Of course, there are many other flowers in full bloom at this time of year, so we recommend bringing a picnic lunch and a picnic blanket!
