Medicinal Cuisine and a Welcoming Atmosphere: Marukuma, a New Restaurant Themed on Yakuzen, Fermentation, and Sake, is Now Open

A Look at the Mouth-Watering Menu!

Marukuma's cuisine is based on the principles of medicinal cuisine. However, this doesn't mean it's sprinkled or mixed with bitter herbal medicine. The basic idea is to harness the power of vibrant, seasonal ingredients to condition the body from the inside out.

That's why ingredients are carefully selected, choosing only those that meet her standards, and no food additives are used in the cooking process.

The menu changes daily based on the ingredients procured. You can choose from the obanzai (Kyoto-style home cooking) dishes lined up on the counter, and she will serve them on small plates for you. This interaction creates a wonderfully at-home atmosphere.

On the day of our visit, the menu was a colorful lineup including french fries made with special potatoes, fried natto, carpaccio, and Chinese yam with salt-koji dressing. Despite using carefully selected ingredients, the prices are easy on the wallet, at around 300-500 yen each.

The Japanese sake that pairs well with the food is selected by "Miyamoto Shoten," a long-established liquor store in the city. They have a rich selection of famous sakes from breweries all over the country. Mmm, better be careful not to drink too much...

And of course, to finish your meal, give yourself a boost for tomorrow with the famous "Seasonal Medicinal Porridge" (600 yen), a dish so good that some people come just for it. The rich umami of the broth and the power of the ingredients will surely seep into your very being with every bite.
