One of the first Christmas events to come to Sapporo is the Jumbo Christmas Tree at Sapporo Factory! This year, the tree will be on display for two months from November 2 (Sat.) to December 25 (Wed.), bringing the city into the Christmas mood.

The Jumbo Christmas Tree display is a popular winter event that has been held since 1993, when Sapporo Factory first opened. The 15-meter tree is decorated with approximately 50,000 LED lights and 1,500 ornaments, and a five-minute light and music show is held every hour to create a festive Christmas mood.

At the lighting ceremony on November 2 (Sat.), light-up kids selected from the general public will press the light switch to light up the jumbo Christmas tree and all the lights in the building to the countdown. Also new this year is the "Wood Illumination" inside the museum. A 1.8-meter box-shaped lantern made of larch and Abies sachalinensis from Hiroo Town will also be installed.

The tree will be made of Abies sachalinensis donated by Hiroo Town, Hokkaido every year. Hiroo Town is home to Hiroo Santaland, the first town outside of Japan to be recognized by Oslo, Norway, the hometown of Santa Claus. This year again, the tree will be displayed at the Sapporo Factory after traveling approximately 270 kilometers.
