Katsuji Murai

Katsuji Murai

Originally from Kanagawa Prefecture, Mr. Murai is a self-proclaimed "drift ice geek" who loves ships and the sea. After graduating from a university in Shizuoka, he worked for an environmental research company in Hokkaido, conducting marine surveys. He moved to Mombetsu to observe the drift ice and dedicated himself to regional revitalization as a director and researcher at a tourist facility. After leaving his position, he used his time off to establish the "Okhotsk (Mombetsu) Sea School." With the concept of "Learn from the Freezing Okhotsk Sea," he is building a new business model to attract study tours and fieldwork from outside the region, taking small, steady steps forward.
