What is the secret behind how the "Kurumi no Yu Natural Hot Spring," which was previously off-limits to bathers, gained so many fans through word of mouth alone?
This day-trip hot spring facility does not have a scenic open-air bath or a trendy sauna, just an indoor bath. Yet, there is a hot spring in Chitose City that is highly popular among hot spring fans from all over the country. We explored the secret behind why this facility, called "Natural Hot Spring Kurumi no Yu," is so popular.
A small hot spring facility standing alone in the middle of expansive fields. Kurumi no Yu Natural Hot Spring is located in a place that most people would not visit unless their intention was to take a bath.
The main reason why hot spring fans rate this hot spring highly is the excellent quality of the spring water. The water, the color of strong oolong tea, gently and thickly clings to the skin. Even if you don't know anything about the technical aspects of hot springs, you can tell that just soaking in the water is comfortable and that your body is happy.
Moreover, it is a hot spring that gushes forth naturally, not pumped up, and the amount of water gushes out at 900 liters per minute, or 1,296,000 liters per day. It is alkaline, which helps remove dead skin cells from the skin, and is hypotonic, so it does not cause skin irritation.
The spring temperature is low at 25.7℃, so it is heated and baths at 41℃ and 43℃ are available. It's great that even families with small children can enjoy it without any problems.
Incidentally, it first opened in 1988 (Showa 63), but initially it was a welfare facility that was only available to members of the association and paying community garden users. As a result, for a long time the general public was unable to enter even if they wanted to, and word spread about the excellent quality of the spring water, attracting passionate attention from hot spring fans all over the country.
After that, it was reopened to the general public in 2017. It lived up to its reputation and remains a highly popular hot spring facility.
For nearly 30 years, the natural hot spring Kurumi no Yu has been a dream for ordinary hot spring fans, but why not give it a try? Not only will it warm you up, it'll also be a great conversation piece!
