SPOT
Former Kamuikotan Station Building
This station building was built in 1898 when the railroad was opened to Asahikawa. In 1934, the station was established as Kamuikotan Nukui Stop, and in 1935, it was renamed Kamuikotan Station, and was actually used as a station building until 1969, when the Hakodate Main Line tunnel was constructed between Nouchi and Ino Stations and the station was closed.
In 1989, the station building was restored to its original state, and was designated as a cultural asset by Asahikawa City in the same year as a valuable Western-style building from the Meiji period. Today, the station is one of the scenic spots at Kamuikotan and a popular rest stop along the Asahikawa Bicycle Path.
