SPOT
Former Kamui Kotan Station Building
In 1898, a railway opened from Sorachibuto (present-day Takikawa) to Asahikawa. In 1901, the Kamui Kotan Nuki-i Stop was established, becoming Kamui Kotan Station in 1903. It was actually used as a station building until it was closed in 1969, when a tunnel was built on the Hakodate Main Line between Osamunai and Ino stations.
In 1989, it was restored based on its appearance at the time of its closure and was designated as a cultural property by Asahikawa City in the same year as a valuable example of Western-style architecture from the Meiji period. Today, it is popular among many people as one of the spots in the scenic area of Kamui Kotan and also as a rest area for the Asahikawa Cycling Road.
