SPOT
Kokusetsu Horotachi Ski Resort
This is the coldest ski resort in Japan at 44 degrees north latitude and -41.2 degrees Celsius. It is a popular ski resort for advanced skiers because of its blessed natural environment and steep slopes that are challenging to ski. The quality of the snow is smooth, fluffy, powdery snow that contains almost no moisture due to the nighttime snowfall. The snowfall is ample, as this is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Hokkaido.
There are four courses ranging from beginner (maximum slope: 18 degrees) to advanced. The slopes, including the advanced Horotachi Course (maximum slope: 44 degrees), are truly a powder freak's paradise, as each course has a non-pressured section. You can ski as you wish because it is a local ski resort without crowds.
