In the Edo period, the explorer who built the foundation of Hokkaido development, Matsuura Takeshirō, is the namer of "Hokkaido". When he visited Akanko lakeside, the state of him being moved by Lake Akan's rich nature is recorded in his book "Kuzuri Nisshi". This monument is at a place 2 minutes walk after entering "Bokke Promenade" from Akanko Lakeside Eco Museum Center.
