Matsuura Takeshiro Poetry Monument

Matsuura Takeshiro, an explorer who built the foundations for Hokkaido's development during the Edo period, is the one who coined the name "Hokkaido." He wrote in his book "Kuzuri Nikki" about how he was moved by the abundant nature of Lake Akan when he visited the shores of the lake. This monument is a two-minute walk from the Lake Akan Eco Museum Center, down the Bokke Promenade.
