SPOT
Hokkaido Okhotsk Drift Ice Science Center GIZA
Exhibits that you can "see," "touch," and "experience"
This is a science museum with the theme of drift ice that stands by the Sea of Okhotsk. The center's main selling point is its "see", "touch", and "experience" exhibits, which can be enjoyed by parents and children alike. The "Severe Cold Experience Room" recreates the world of 20 degrees below zero in the middle of winter. Real drift ice is on display year-round and can be touched directly.
The ice aquarium with highly transparent ice and the frozen soap bubble experience are also popular! Visitors can view the four seasons of Okhotsk, including drift ice, in the dome theater that projects powerful images. There is also a Q&A corner and a drift ice observation room. Special exhibitions on various themes are held from time to time. The center is also designated as "Roadside Station Okhotsk Monbetsu" and has facilities such as a cafe and store.
