Hokkaido Prefectural Okhotsk Drift Ice Science Center GIZA
An exhibition where you can "see", "touch" and "experience"
This is a science museum with a drift ice theme, located next to the Sea of Okhotsk. Its selling point is the exhibition room where you can "see", "touch" and "experience", making it a fun facility for parents and children. The severe cold experience room recreates the world of -20 degrees Celsius in the middle of winter. Real drift ice is on display all year round, and you can touch it directly.
The ice aquarium, made of highly transparent ice, and the experience of making frozen soap bubbles are also popular! You can see the four seasons of Okhotsk, including drift ice, in the dome theater, which projects powerful images. There is also a Q&A corner and a drift ice observation room. Special exhibitions with various themes are held from time to time. The center is also designated as a "Roadside Station Okhotsk Monbetsu," and has facilities such as a cafe and a shop.
