SPOT
Okhotsk Tower, an observation tower for the ice sea
A 360-degree view of the Okhotsk Sea
This is the world's first underwater ice observation tower, standing on the tip of Monbetsu Port's third breakwater, about 1 km offshore. It combines both tourist facilities and research observation facilities from the underwater floor to the third floor. It is 38.5 meters above sea level and 7.5 meters below sea level. The third floor observation deck offers a 360-degree view because it is above sea level, there is a 4D theater on the second floor, and the underwater floor has 11 large and small underwater windows and a mini aquarium where you can feed sturgeons.
Not only can you see drift ice in winter, but you can also observe various marine life throughout the year. The Monbetsu Port Third Breakwater, which is the access road to the tower, is nicknamed the "Clione Promenade" and is a popular walking spot. The cafe "companio" is open in the observation deck on the third floor.
