SPOT
Moerenuma Park
Moerenuma Park was designed by the sculptor Isamu Noguchi, with the entire park conceived as a single sculpture. A former waste disposal site was reborn over 23 years into an art park that represents Sapporo. Its magnificent form is called the 'Sculpture of the Earth,' and it shows various expressions depending on the time of day and the changing seasons. In addition to being a place to enjoy art and leisure, Moerenuma Park has also become a popular spot for photography enthusiasts in recent years.
In spring, enjoy cherry blossom viewing in the Sakura Forest. The Sakura Forest is home to approximately 1,600 cherry trees. Within the forest, there are seven play areas featuring 126 pieces of playground equipment designed by Isamu Noguchi. It is a popular cherry blossom viewing spot for families, where children can play to their heart's content.
In summer, enjoy playing in the water at Moere Beach. Moere Beach, designed by Noguchi to evoke a seaside, is paved with Ise gravel. It is a very gentle, mortar-shaped, shallow water play area. Water springs from three outlets, creating ripples as it disappears.
In autumn, enjoy fireworks by top-class pyrotechnicians. The 'Moerenuma Art Fireworks,' which synchronizes fireworks with music utilizing the vast grounds, is held in the autumn. Pyrotechnicians from all over Japan gather to present an aerial art form that combines Japanese tradition with the latest technology, which can be viewed up close. *Fireworks display requires a fee (please check the official website for details).
In winter, rent sleds, snowshoes, or cross-country skis. Moerenuma Park is a popular spot for snow play in the winter. At the shop on the 1st floor of the Glass Pyramid, you can rent items such as sleds, boots, snowshoes, and cross-country skis. The snowy landscape of Sapporo viewed from the summit of Mt. Moere is also exceptional.
