SPOT
Moerenuma Park
The entire park was designed by sculptor Isamu Noguchi as a single work of sculpture. After 23 years, the former waste disposal site has been revitalized as one of Sapporo's most famous art parks. Its majestic appearance is called a "sculpture of the earth," and it shows various expressions depending on the time of day and the changing seasons when you visit. In addition to art and leisure activities, Moerenuma Park has recently become a spot of interest for those who enjoy photography.
In spring, enjoy cherry blossom viewing in the sakura forest. Approximately 2,300 cherry trees have been planted in the Sakura Forest. There are seven playground areas in the forest, with 126 pieces of playground equipment designed by Isamu Noguchi. This is a popular hanami spot for families where children can play to their heart's content.
In summer, visitors can play in the water at Moele Beach. Moelebi Beach was designed by Noguchi to resemble a seaside area and is paved with coral. Water gushes out from three spouts and disappears in ripples.
In the fall, enjoy the fireworks display by a first-rate pyrotechnician. The "Moerenuma Art Fireworks," which takes advantage of the vast site to synchronize fireworks and music, is held in the fall. Fireworks artists from all over Japan gather to create an up-close view of art in the sky that makes full use of Japanese traditions and the latest technology. Fireworks are available for a fee (check the official website for details).
In winter, visitors can rent sleds, snowshoes, and walking skis. Moerenuma Park is a popular snow play spot in winter. At the store on the first floor of the Glass Pyramid, visitors can rent sleds, boots, snowshoes, and cross-country skis. The snowy view of Sapporo from the top of Moele Mountain is also exceptional.
