SPOT
Horoiwa Mountain Climbing Trail
You can go through the Lake Saroma Natural Recreation Forest to reach the Lake Saroma Observation Deck. Stairs and handrails are provided in steep areas, so even children can safely climb. There are two routes, one from the Roadside Station side (West Trailhead) and the other from the Naniwa side (East Trailhead). It takes about one hour to reach the observatory, so take your time and enjoy nature.
Climbing the mountain in fresh snow with snowshoes on the ground where no one has walked before is a unique winter experience. Even though the temperature is minus, you will start to sweat as you climb. From January to March, you can see Lake Saroma frozen over and drift ice on the Sea of Okhotsk from the Lake Saroma Observation Deck.
