SPOT
Cape Nosappu
Cape Nosappu is the easternmost cape on the mainland, located at 43 degrees 23 minutes 07 seconds north latitude and 145 degrees 49 minutes 01 seconds east longitude, and is famous as the place where the sun rises the earliest. Cape Nosabu Lighthouse, built at the tip of the cape, is the oldest lighthouse in Hokkaido, lit in 1872, and is the symbol of Cape Nosabu. The Northern Territories, including Shell Island and Crystal Island in the Chimai Archipelago and Kunashiri Island, float right in front of the lighthouse.
In the vicinity are the "Mango-no Ie" (House of Mango-no Ie), "Kitakata Kaikan" (Northern Territories Museum), and "Sightseeing Product Center" that introduce the Northern Territories and Nemuro's tourism and products, as well as "Peace Tower" and other souvenir stores and restaurants, attracting many tourists throughout the year.
The symbolic statue of the "Bridge over the Four Islands" and the "Lighthouse," which were erected to pray for the early return of the Northern Territories, continue to burn brightly today with "prayer lights" brought from Okinawa.
If you are lucky, you can see sea otters and whales.
