SPOT
Cape Nosappu
Cape Nosappu is located at 43 degrees 23 minutes 07 seconds north and 145 degrees 49 minutes 01 seconds east, and is the easternmost cape on the mainland, famous for being the first place to see the morning sun. The Cape Nosappu Lighthouse at the tip of the cape is the oldest lighthouse in Hokkaido, having been lit in 1872, and is also the symbol of Cape Nosappu. Right in front of you, you can see the Northern Territories, including Kaigara Island and Suisho Island of the Habomai Islands, as well as Kunashiri Island, floating as if you were holding them in your hand.
The surrounding area is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants, including the "Nostalgia House," "Hokukyokan," and "Tourist and Products Center," which introduce tourism and local products of the Northern Territories and Nemuro, as well as the "Peace Tower," and is bustling with tourists throughout the year.
The symbolic statue "The Bridge over the Four Islands" and the "Lighthouse" were erected in prayer for the early return of the Northern Territories, and the "Flame of Prayer" brought from Okinawa continues to burn brightly to this day.
If you're lucky, you might see sea otters or whales.
