The Sapporo Clock Tower was originally called "XX". What on earth is that?! [Dropkick on My Devil x Mame Anime Collaboration (4)]

A collaboration project between Domingo and "Dropkick on My Devil x Mame Anime (Hokkaido Edition)" that started this spring! The anime features various areas of Hokkaido, but what will it be this time?! Check out the 4th episode that was broadcast here!

Many people have probably seen the exterior of the clock tower, which was described as "surprisingly small" in the anime, on TV. The red roof is cute and impressive.

Clock Tower 1

As the title suggests, did you know that when it was first completed in 1878 (Meiji 11), it wasn't actually a clock tower? It was originally used as a "demonstration hall" for the Sapporo Agricultural College, the predecessor of Hokkaido University, in other words, an indoor gymnasium where students conducted military training and entrance and graduation ceremonies. It was built based on the idea of Dr. Clark, who is known for his famous quote, "Boys, be ambitious!" On the second floor of the clock tower, there is a place where you can take a photo with Dr. Clark.

Clock Tower 2

The space that recreates the atmosphere of that time spreads out on the second floor. If you sit on the bench, you might feel like you've traveled back in time to the Meiji era!

Clock Tower 3"

The clock tower was added to the martial arts hall three years after the building was completed. The clear, beautiful sound of the pendulum tower clock has long been a source of pride for the people of Sapporo. It's amazing that it's still in operation today! On the second floor, there is a machine of the same model that shows how the clock works.

Clock Tower 4

So far, I've only talked about what's on the second floor. So what's on the first floor of the clock tower?

Clock Tower 5

There are many old photographs and documents on display, so you can learn about the history of the clock tower.

"Apparently the clock tower was originally built in a different location." "The official name was decided to be 'Sapporo Clock Tower' in 1998."

...and so on. Why not show off the knowledge you've gained here to your friends?

Please look forward to the next collaboration with "Dropkick on My Devil x Mame Anime (Hokkaido Edition)"!
