[2025 Edition] Cherry Blossom Special: 5 Recommended Moss Phlox Spots! Don't Forget Hokkaido's Other 'Sakura'
When you think of cherry blossoms in Hokkaido, varieties like Ezo Yamazakura, Somei Yoshino, and Chishima Zakura might come to mind. But there's another 'sakura' you shouldn't forget: Shibazakura, or moss phlox. In this article, we'll introduce the best spots in Hokkaido to see these beautiful flowers.
Shibazakura, also known as Hanatsumegusa, is different from the cherry blossoms that bloom on trees, despite sharing the 'sakura' name. It's called Shibazakura because it spreads like 'shiba' (lawn) and blooms with cherry-like flowers.
Enjoy both the tree-blossoming sakura and the ground-covering Shibazakura during Hokkaido's spring!
