Hokkaido, which boasts of its vast nature, presents dynamic scenery during the autumn foliage season as mountains and trees turn red and yellow. In this issue, we will introduce six events where you can enjoy the autumn leaves in various ways, perfect for sightseeing, family outings, or as a couple.

1 Enjoy the spectacular autumn leaves in Jozankei "Jozankei Five Great Autumn Foliage Tour by Bus" (Sapporo City )

Buses will run to the Five Great Autumn Foliage Areas in Jozankei, one of Sapporo's representative autumn foliage spots. Visitors can fully enjoy the autumn foliage in different situations and activities at the destinations selected as the best autumn foliage spots. Guided tour buses are also available for first-time visitors to Jozankei.

A light-up event held at "Momijidani (Autumn Leaves Valley)," a walking path in the Sounkyo hot spring resort area at the foot of Daisetsuzan, which heralds the earliest autumn foliage in Japan. At the venue, the autumn leaves are illuminated in vivid red and yellow, and digital artwork that is linked to human movement is deployed. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing time with a hot spring bath.

A light-up event held at Kosetsuen in Miharu Park, Hakodate's most famous autumn foliage viewing spot. The 100-meter-long maple trees and other trees are lit up every day, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The vast site is planted with about 150 kinds of trees, and visitors can enjoy the autumn colors of mountain maples and yellow maples.

This event allows visitors to enjoy Lake Shikotsu and its hot springs in autumn while viewing the autumn leaves. Lake Shikotsu's excellent transparency makes the surface of the lake "Shikotsu-ko Blue," which glows blue when it is illuminated. The autumn leaves reflected on the surface of the lake are spectacular. You can take a day trip from Sapporo, or stay overnight at Shikotsuko Onsen and enjoy the autumn scenery while relaxing and healing.

5 "Hokuto Autumn Leaves Corridor" (Hokuto City) Illuminated fantastic autumn leaves reflected on the surface of water.

Hachironuma Park, with approximately 2,000 maple, azalea, cherry, and other trees on a vast 11-hectare site, will be lit up. Visitors can enjoy the fantastic sight of the autumn leaves reflected on the surface of the water of Hachironuma like a mirror. The park is beautiful during the day when the leaves are changing colors, but the illuminated night view is also a must-see.

6 Let's Climb Mt. Megumi in Autumn Pattern "Megumi Autumn Foliage Climbing Party" (Hakodate City)

This event is a climb up Mt. Megumi, famous for the 600,000 azaleas planted at the foot of the mountain, to the cape observation deck and the summit. The azaleas in autumn color the entire plateau with red and orange leaves, welcoming climbers to the summit. Even beginners can enjoy climbing Mt. Megumi with ease.
