Did you know that there are many spots where you can enjoy sculptures and art objects in the great nature of Hokkaido? In this issue, we will introduce a number of artistic spots that will stimulate your curiosity and make you want to visit in the autumn season of art.

SPOT 1 "Sapporo Art Park" awakens the senses with the smell of green (Sapporo)

A center for the arts with an art museum, studio, outdoor stage, and music rehearsal room. The Sapporo Art Park is a center for the arts, with the Sapporo Art Park Museum holding various exhibitions, an outdoor art museum with sculptures that change with the seasons, and various craft studios, including a woodworking studio and a glass studio, where visitors can experience the art of making art.

Closed: Mondays from January 4 to April 28 / December 29 to January 3

SPOT 2 Photojournalistic urban art park "Moerenuma Park" (Sapporo)

The vast site is neatly arranged with geometric mountains, fountains, playground equipment, and other facilities, and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery where nature and art are fused together. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom, and in summer, water playgrounds, fountains, and other facilities are open to add color to Sapporo's refreshing summer. In autumn, the leaves turn red, and in winter, cross-country skiing and sledding can be enjoyed amidst a blanket of snow.

SPOT 3 "Otaru Art Village" (Otaru City), a renovated historical building

Each of the four buildings constructed in the first half of the 20th century, when Otaru was in the midst of its prosperity, exhibits and displays outstanding Japanese and international art works and crafts that have glamorized that era. Visitors can enjoy art while immersing themselves in a space that evokes a sense of history.

SPOT 4 The outdoor space is open 24 hours a day in a natural state "Kan Yasuda Sculpture Museum Arte Piazza Bibai" (Bibai City)

This is an art plaza where all people living in the present time can spend their time freely and mindlessly. Visitors can spend time surrounded by nature while enjoying various works of art, such as the "Water Plaza" consisting of the white marble sculptures "Tensei" and "Ten," the stone stage, and a pond, and the "Trifoglio Plaza" featuring the eye-catching marble sculpture "Heaven" lying down as if to welcome children.

SPOT 5 "Rokka no Mori" (Nakasatsunai Village), well-known for its Rokkatei wrapping paper

With the majestic Hidaka Mountains in the background, 100-year-old elm trees grow in this rich natural environment, and a clear stream flows through the area. The flowers and plants familiar to visitors from Rokkatei's flower-patterned wrapping paper are grown here, and a store and café, Roku'café, is also open for business. The "Naoyuki Sakamoto Memorial Museum" exhibits sketches of flowers and plants and paintings of Hokkaido's mountains, the "Silo 50th Anniversary Memorial Museum" exhibits cover art from the children's poetry magazine "Silo" pasted all over the walls and ceiling, and the "Masami Mano Works Museum" is also open.

SPOT 6 "Shigechan Land" (Tsubetsu Town), where you can stroll through the "Shigechan World" of different spaces.

Shigenari Onishi, an artist, built this private museum in 2001. It is deep yet peaceful! Come free yourself from everyday life, face the works of art scattered around the site, and take a walk in the Shigechan World, which can be called a different space.

SPOT 7 Toyako Gurutto Sculpture Park, an outdoor sculpture park where people and nature meet (Toyako Town)

Toyako Town and Sobetsu Town, which comprise the area surrounding Lake Toya, have arranged a total of 58 sculptures along the lakeside as an "outdoor sculpture park where people and nature meet". Please enjoy the harmony of nature and sculpture art by visiting the sculptures.

SPOT 8 "Ishiyama Ryokuchi" (Sapporo City), an artistic landscape created from the ruins of a quarry.

Ishiyama Ryokuchi consists of the "North Block," a nature-rich recreation area for citizens with an observation terrace and tennis courts, and the "South Block," an artistic landscape that makes use of the quarry site with its exposed rock face. The park is a fusion of nature and art, and has been selected as one of the "100 Best Cultural Spots in the Hometown". The park is characterized by a fusion of natural stone formations and art works, creating a highly artistic space that cannot be seen anywhere else.

SPOT 9 Giant "crab claw" standing on the seashore (Monbetsu City)

This giant objet d'art was jointly created by sculptor Toshi Nagasaki, Hisao Kuwahara of the Monbetsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the citizens of Monbetsu in a project called "Drift Ice Art Festival" in 1983. It has become a souvenir photo spot for sightseeing in Monbetsu.

SPOT 10 Straight line space to foster creativity "Sapporo Odori Underground Gallery 500m Museum of Art" (Sapporo)

This gallery, which exhibits art works, is located in the underground concourse connecting Odori Station and Bus Center Mae Station of the Sapporo Municipal Subway. The gallery utilizes the underground space, one of the regional characteristics of Sapporo, as a venue for local artists to present their works, and disseminates Sapporo's culture and art both inside and outside the city.
