100th Anniversary Memorial Tower and Northern Memorial Hall
In July 1978, Wakkanai City built the 100th Anniversary Memorial Tower on a hilltop in Wakkanai Park, 170 meters above sea level, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Wakkanai City.
The tower consists of a two-story reinforced concrete "Northern Memorial Hall" at the base and a hollow reinforced concrete "Memorial Tower" 80 meters above the ground.
The first and second floors of the Northern Memorial Hall contain local and Karafuto related materials.
The tower has a glass-walled observation deck 70 meters above the ground, from which visitors can see the vast Sarobetsu Plain to the south, Rishiri and Rebun to the west, and Munen to the north.
To the north, the island shadow of Sakhalin can be seen across the Soya Strait.
The panoramic 360-degree view of Wakkanai, which stretches 240 meters above sea level, is truly unique to Wakkanai.
