"Saera" the sandwich shop with the long lines! 3 recommended menu items that are too good to be true
As you exit the ticket gates at Odori subway station and continue walking underground, you will come across a place where you often see a line. At the end of the line is Saera Coffee and Sandwich Shop (hereafter referred to as Saera). Yes, it is a traditional coffee shop. Let's solve the mystery of why there are lines at coffee shops! Saera is located in the basement of the Toshin Building, which stands to the west of the department store "Marui Imai." If you're a Sapporo resident who has walked underground in Odori, it's a familiar place.
The entrance to Saera is a little way from here. When the restaurant is full, customers line up in this passageway, waiting for a seat to become available.
By the way, the store is on the third basement floor. You go down another flight of stairs from the underground mall. Once you enter the store... the view that greets you is that of a traditional coffee shop! It's a very relaxing scene.
Once you sit down and get your menu, you'll understand why it's so popular. There are an incredible number of sandwiches! ... In fact, if you look closely, there are about 15 different types of ingredients. From there, you choose the two you like when ordering, which is why there are over 100 possible combinations on the menu. Well, to start with, having 15 different ingredients is quite a lot.
The most popular combination is "King Crab & Fruit" (990 yen including tax). The king crab salad sandwich, which is made by hand breaking up the crabs freshly purchased every day, is a surefire favorite. And when you combine that with a refreshingly sweet fruit sandwich, it's the best!
The "Smoked Salmon & Chicken Salad" (770 yen including tax), a combination of smoked salmon and smoked chicken salad sandwich, is also popular. Other popular options include filling sandwiches such as green onion and pork slices sandwiches and minced meat cutlet sandwiches, as well as unusual options such as curry croquette sandwiches and grilled corn croquette sandwiches, and of course basic sandwiches with egg, ham, and potato salad.
The sandwich menu has over 100 varieties, but the toasted sandwiches that are only available in the store are also very appealing. The recommended item is the "Pastrami Beef Sandwich" (800 yen including tax). Don't you think that all the sandwiches we've introduced so far are reasonably priced considering how much volume and effort they take to make? A set drink costs an additional 250 yen including tax. It's a very comfortable place to eat delicious sandwiches at a great price, so it's no wonder there are long lines.
Founded in 1975, Saera has been loved by Sapporo residents for a long time. Even though times have changed, you can always come here to enjoy delicious sandwiches and a relaxing time. It is a famous restaurant that you should definitely keep in your mind.
