Nishin Goten Otaru Kihin-kan (Former Aoyama Villa)

Enjoy the art mansion of the north and delicious Japanese cuisine

Otaru Kihin-kan (Former Aoyama Villa), an art mansion of the north and a registered tangible cultural property of Japan, is a mansion so large that its total construction cost is said to be approximately 3 billion yen in terms of today's prices. Masakichi Aoyama, the second generation of the Aoyama family who made a huge fortune from herring fishing, built this villa with his daughter, Masae, over a period of six and a half years.

The building materials, such as cypress, zelkova, ebony, ebony, cedar, and Yakusugi, which the master carpenter collected with great care, Shunkei lacquer corridors and pillars, and stairs made of tamo wood are all luxurious in the living space.

We invite you to visit one of Hokkaido's most luxurious and magnificent residences and experience the historical architecture and be immersed in the excitement. The adjacent Otaru Guest House welcomes you with 138 large ceiling paintings of flowers, and the Japanese-style restaurant serves delicious Japanese and herring dishes.
