The buta-don, which is so delicious that you can't stop eating more, is now known throughout Japan as one of Obihiro's most popular gourmet dishes.
There is no clear definition of "buta-don". All you have to do is grill pork belly or loin, dip it in a sweet and spicy soy sauce-based sauce, and place it on top of rice. Some restaurants add shredded green onions or green peas as toppings, but the basic ingredients are pork and white rice. Simple is best!
Pork has been a familiar part of the Tokachi region since pig farming was practiced there from the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912). Perhaps it was inevitable that the "buta-don" (pork bowl) was born. It is said that it originated in a restaurant in Obihiro City in the early Showa period.
Today, there are many restaurants specializing in buta-don (pork bowl), and all of them are very busy at lunch time! Each restaurant has its own specialties, such as pork belly or pork loin, or charcoal-grilled pork. Of course, each restaurant has its own special sauce.
It is fun to compare different kinds of pork bowls and try to find the one you like best. No matter which restaurant you choose, you can be sure that it will be delicious!

Prior to the broadcast of the full-length version in July, "Mame-Anime (Hokkaido version)" was aired on Hokkaido Bunka Hoso from April 6!
