Sapporo City

Near the Sapporo Factory, a well-known commercial facility for Sapporo citizens, there is a "Japanese-Western blend coffee shop" where you can go back in time. What kind of place is it?

If you go east from Sapporo Factory, you will arrive at the former Nagayama Takeshiro Residence of Sapporo City and the former Mitsubishi Mining Dormitory of Sapporo City, both of which are modern Western-style buildings. These magnificent buildings are designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Hokkaido and Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan, respectively.

Take off your shoes, enter the buildings, and walk toward the former Mitsubishi Mining Dormitory on your left!

This is "Nagayama Rest," a coffee shop with a blend of Japanese and Western styles. When you open the door, you will find a nostalgic yet fresh retro-modern space.

Isn't it a little special to be able to have meals and tea in a building that is a tangible cultural property? We immediately asked for a recommendation of the menu.

First is the Nagayama Residence Curry (1,080 yen including tax). Two types of curry roux are available: a traditional pork curry and a beef curry with sauteed beef. It is understandable that this is the most popular menu item among both men and women. The curry is gentle, with a moderate spiciness, and you can tell that it has been carefully prepared.

The "Fruit Sandwich" (980 yen including tax) is a true blend of Japanese and Western flavors! You may be thinking, "Isn't this the fruit sandwich that's all the rage these days?" You may be thinking, "Isn't this a trendy fruit sandwich?" In fact, the cream portion is actually "bean paste cream" made from a mixture of white bean paste and whipped cream. In addition to the fruit shown in the cross section, there is also a rice cake filled with warabimochi, making it a very satisfying meal!

The "Nagayama Parfait" (1,190 yen including tax) is another unique parfait that embodies a blend of Japanese and Western flavors from the outside. The "Nagayama Parfait" (1,190 yen including tax) is a unique parfait that from the outside embodies a blend of Japanese and Western flavors. It is made with soft-serve ice cream from Kitahiro Farm in Shintoku Town, and underneath are layers of ingredients such as green tea mousse, cherry whip, Yumepirika granola, and many other ingredients. The taste and texture changes with each bite, so you will never get bored.

In the hot season, colorful and cool sodas are also recommended. For 220 yen extra for a melon, strawberry, summer mandarin orange, or other soda (390 yen including tax), you can have a soft-serve ice cream float like the one in the photo, which is even more photo-worthy and exciting.

Instead of spending lunch or tea time at your usual café, it is nice to experience the flow of time in a relaxed atmosphere. The extraordinary feeling that you will experience only in this space will give you the energy to get back to your daily life again.
