A free outdoor movie screening will be held for the first time at the Sapporo Kita 3-jo Hiroba (Akapla), located in front of the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building (Red Brick Office). Food trucks will be on-site, and you can also bring your own food and drinks. A fluffy artificial turf area will be available, allowing you to enjoy the movie with takeout gourmet from nearby shops.

2 "Shikabe Delicious Food Festival": Free Seafood Soup and a Gathering of Marine Delicacies (Shikabe)

This is a festival where you can fully enjoy the seasonal flavors of Shikabe Town. There will be plenty of delicious local food, including bargain sales of seafood, free distribution of Shikabe seafood soup, and food booths selling Shikabe ramen and grilled scallops. With local mascots and attractions, it's an event that everyone from children to adults can enjoy.

3 "Rail Carnival in Otaru": Ride a Pedal-Powered Trolley on Otaru's Abandoned Railway Line (Otaru)

At the "Rail Carnival in Otaru," you can feel the breeze as you ride a pedal-powered trolley along the historic Former Temiya Line. The trolley runs on the abandoned tracks, making a round trip from Otaru Station's Chuo-dori to the Otaru Port Inaho Line prefectural road. It's a great addition to your Otaru sightseeing, and on Children's Day, May 5, elementary school students can ride for free, making it a special experience recommended for families.

4 "Spring Mikasa Railway Village Festival": Enjoy Golden Week with Stage Shows and Games (Mikasa)

The "Spring Mikasa Railway Village Festival" is a hands-on event where families can have fun all day. In addition to stage events like shows, a bingo tournament with great prizes, and a coal-hunting game called "Find the Black Diamond!", there are also plenty of on-site attractions such as police car and fire truck displays, a model railway exhibition, and festival stalls. With food trucks and handmade goods for sale, it's perfect for a family outing during Golden Week.

5 "The 39th Jozankei Onsen Keiryu Koinobori": Carp Streamers Swimming in the Blue Skies of the Hot Spring Town (Sapporo)

The "Jozankei Onsen Keiryu Koinobori" is a traditional event that colors the spring in Jozankei. Amidst the changing scenery of lingering snow, cherry blossoms, and fresh greenery, about 400 carp streamers dance in the sky above the hot spring town, captivating visitors. The streamers are collected from homes and workplaces across Hokkaido that no longer need them, making this a heartwarming tradition that celebrates the arrival of spring along with cherished memories.

6 "Nishin Banya (Herring Mansion) Festival": Savor Obira's Famous Cuisine and History (Obira)

Held in front of the Former Hanada Family Herring Mansion, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property in Obira, this festival celebrates the town's history and cuisine. In addition to free distribution of Sanpei-jiru (fish soup) and a gourmet & sales corner with delicious local food and handmade specialties, there will also be stage events such as taiko drumming, brass band performances, song shows, and Matsumae Kagura (sacred dance). The festival concludes with a big-catch lottery and a rice-cake throwing event, further exciting the crowd.

7 "The 2nd Niseko Ama-ichi Sweets Marche": A Collection of Sweets from Around Niseko (Niseko)

A sweet event that brings together desserts from Niseko Town. Six local shops will gather to offer cakes, bread, and exclusive limited-edition sweets not usually available. Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, this year's marche is powered up with an even more fulfilling lineup.

8 "Abalone and Nikai Salmon Festival": Savor Yakumo's Live Abalone and Hokkaido Nikai Salmon (Yakumo)

A food event where you can savor farmed live abalone from Kumaishi and Hokkaido Nikai Salmon. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, including a gourmet food street showcasing Yakumo's famous flavors, stage events like song shows and bingo tournaments, and a red and white mochi (rice cake) throwing event.

10 A Unique Historical Experience: "Kakebotoke Polishing & Stone Mill Matcha Making" (Kaminokuni)

This is a unique historical experience event held exclusively on Children's Day. In the Kakebotoke Polishing Experience, you can polish a *kakebotoke* (a hanging Buddhist plaque), which are only excavated in Kaminokuni Town within Hokkaido, with a wish in your heart for it to come true. In the Stone Mill Matcha Making Experience, you can try making matcha using the oldest stone mill in Hokkaido. Special sweets for Children's Day will also be provided.
