The Garinko, characterized by its bright red body and two huge drills called Archimedes screws, was originally an icebreaker built experimentally for oil field development in Alaska that was converted into a tourist boat. In 2004, it was registered as a Hokkaido Heritage Site under the title "Drift Ice and the Garinko."

Cruises through the drift ice that covers the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk are a winter-only experience that can only be enjoyed here. The sight of the ship crunching through the drift ice as it moves forward is truly impressive! Of course, the interior of the ship is fully heated and comfortable. From the observation space on the second floor, you can enjoy the world of drift ice that spreads out before you while feeling the breeze of Okhotsk. If you're lucky, you might even encounter eagles, a protected species, or wild seals.

On the sunrise and sunset cruises, you will lose track of time as you watch the fantastic sight of the sun and drift ice. The Garinko is also great for fishing cruises in the summer, such as for flatfish fishing. Rod rentals and bait are available for purchase, so you can participate empty-handed.

In January 2021, the Garinko-go III IMERU will be launched, making the Garinko-go II and the Garinko-go a two-ship operation. Please enjoy the even more powerful Garinko-go.
